Welcome to Chasing Planner Peace's 'Spotlight on a Planner' series. We aim to show the world how planning has changed lives and showcase the different methods people use when chasing planner peace. This month, January 2020, we chat to Shannan Philips and find our how planning has supported her passion for perfumery.

Spotlight on a Planner Shannan Phillips from The Aromatic Artisan

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi, my name is Shannan and I am a work from home mum in regional Victoria. I live on a merino sheep farm with my fiance and our two young girls. I also have 2 adult boys and I am getting married this year!!

Work-wise, I am a perfumer, designing and creating beautiful perfumes and more recently, growing the flowers to then extract the oils to use in my perfumes! It's a long process that requires lots of note-taking which requires lots of notebooks!

How did you get into planning?
I have always been a list-maker and a lover of notebooks, however it has only been the last year or so that I have been sucked down the rabbit hole of planning! I found that I needed something more than just my to-do list to get through each day, and after some searching and conversations in the Facebook group Afterpay Obsession, I found Chasing Planner Peace!

It took me a while to find my planning style, I started with A5 rings and a few different inserts but found it was too big and bulky for me. Plus my toddler kept getting into it and drawing all over it! So I bought the zip-up personal size and it was perfect! Still went through a few different styles of inserts before I reached the conclusion that I am better off with blank inserts and building pages myself, to suit my needs. I still buy my blank inserts from Chasing Planner Peace though because their paper stock is beautiful.

I use my personal for all my day-to-day, week-to-week things, both home life and work. I now use my A5 as my wedding planner!

What are your best tips for achieving planner peace?
Don't be afraid to try new things. But just a few different things at first to find your style, and if your style changes, go with it!
